As. Oy Helsingin Darwin was built after a housing company on the same plot sold building rights to Lehto. Myllypuro, a neighbourhood of around 11,000 inhabitants, is located in a rocky forest landscape, three to four kilometres east of the Viikki Campus of the University of Helsinki, and two kilometres northwest of Itäkeskus. Helsingin Darwin has excellent transport connections, whether your destination is close by or further away. The bus stops 50 metres from the Darwin front door and the metro is just 750 metres away, a few minutes walk.
As. Oy Helsingin Darwin has 77 apartments – studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats. It is a six-storey residential apartment block with two stairwells and an elevator.
Darwin has a modern architectural look, with a serene and streamlined facade of seamless plastering. Glazed balconies with detailed gratings add variety. The building is crowned by a sauna department on the attic floor and a yard with play areas separated from the pedestrian pathway by a retaining wall.
Darwin’s spacious 28-39 m2 studios come in both compact and alcove layouts. Its 58.5-63 m2 one-bedroom apartments have spacious floor plans and open kitchens. The two-bedroom apartments measure 59.5-68 m2 and feature gorgeous kitchens with islands. Some also have bright balconies.

During the construction of Helsingin Darwin, we made use of Lehto’s own factory production. At our own factory in Oulainen, we manufacture prefabricated kitchen and bathroom modules. They are mainly used in the construction of apartment buildings and care homes. The modules are manufactured under stringent quality control that ensures not only even quality, but also considerably better moisture control than in traditional construction.
The use of modules also facilitates scheduling the construction site phase, which speeds up the completion of the properties and enables significant cost savings. The completed factory-made modules are lowered into the interior through the roof.
