We built the major DSV logistics centre in Hakkila, Vantaa, for Haxlog Silver Real Estate Oy. The floor area of the logistics centre is approximately 63,000 m², and in addition to warehouse and terminal facilities, it houses DSV’s Finnish head office.

The project was carried out as a turnkey contract, with us being responsible for both design and construction. The construction work was preceded by considerable excavation and earthmoving work.

A large logistics centre realised efficiently

The premises of the logistics centre were designed to match the customer’s needs. Office premises were also added to the approximately 50,000 m² warehouse building and approximately 10,000 m² terminal building. The warehouse building features ceiling sprinklers. The floor area of the head office is approximately 3,000 m², and its surface materials were harmonised with other DSV country offices. Large truck yards were also constructed at the site to cater for the needs of heavy traffic.

Also this logistics centre made use of roof panels fabricated at our Humppila factory. Dimensioning the proprietary roof elements for the frame is easy and efficient, which made it possible to efficiently optimise the frame system and sprinkler.

Thanks to the use of prefabricated roof panels, the roof structure could be closed quickly, which, in addition to efficiency, added weather production for other work phases. The large site employed over 100 motivated construction professionals every day. The construction time of the property was approximately 13 months.

Zero-defect delivery

In addition to the busy truck and forklift truck traffic, the customer’s wishes regarding e.g. layout and shelf intervals were taken into consideration in designing the logistics centre. In large projects, the meaning of advance planning is enormous, and therefore particular attention must be paid to scheduling as well. This is one of our strengths as a builder of business premises and logistics centres. The benefits of our operating model excel in big projects where adherence to the schedule and budget and the quality of construction are particularly important.

The logistics centre was delivered to the satisfied operator as a zero-defect delivery in November 2018. The façade of the warehouse and terminal buildings is primarily cladded using prefabricated sheet steel-wool-sheet steel elements. The façade of the warehouse also features profile glass walls, with the urban landscape taken into consideration in its use. Rhythm was added to the façade on the motorway side using vertical windows. Lots of plantings were also added to the yard areas.

The DSV logistics centre is located next to Grundfos, another project of ours. You can read about Grundfos here.
